Under Labor, Australia will fail to meet its 2030 emissions target, but taxpayers will still need to pick up the tab.
The Climate Change Authority’s latest annual progress report has confirmed that ‘Australia is not reducing emissions at the rate needed to reach the 2030 target.’
Australia should be reporting a reduction of 17 million tonnes in greenhouse gas emissions to meet Labor’s 2030 targets. Instead, the Albanese Government went to the United Nations’ climate change summit last December reporting an increase of 4 million tonnes.
However, Labor is still throwing taxpayer funds at its renewable-only approach to emissions reduction despite its obvious failure. The Net Zero Australia study by Princeton University, the University of Melbourne and the University of Queensland puts the cost of Labor’s plan at $1.2 to $1.5 trillion by 2030.
Labor is still expecting taxpayers to pick up this bill, despite even the most optimistic forecasts showing Australia failing to meet its 2030 targets.
They are not changing tack, with Minister Bowen still forcing the closure of 90 percent of our 24/7 baseload power within a decade.
Instead of burying its head in the sand and pretending that Australia will meet its emissions targets, Labor needs to stop wasting taxpayer dollars on a train wreck of an energy policy and focus on achievable targets which deliver cleaner, cheaper, and consistent electricity.
