Documents obtained through Freedom of Information requests lodged by the Opposition have revealed the eye-watering amount of money the Prime Minister spent on flowers for a dinner at the National Gallery of Victoria.
The Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet spent $18,513 on floral arrangements for the Leaders and Spouses’ Dinner at the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit held in Melbourne earlier this year, with the pièce de resistance being a 12-metre rectangle of flowers, described as an ‘elegant self- contained continuous arrangement to reach the total length of the table.’
In a further display of decadence, Anthony Albanese’s department paid a further $44,000 to Jessica Mauboy to perform for the guests.
Opposition waste spokesman, James Stevens, said “it's remarkable and insulting that while Australian families are struggling to put food on their dinner table, Anthony Albanese is putting $20,000 of flowers on his."
"Albo’s flower power has cost taxpayers more than $60,000 in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis."
"Unfortunately, this is just another example of our Prime Minister enjoying himself at the taxpayer’s expense,” Mr Stevens said.
