$10 million dirty advertising sham won't give us cleaner cars

Under Labor, millions of taxpayer dollars are being spent on an advertising campaign to sell their proposed family car tax before it has even been implemented.

The Albanese Government is pushing ahead with its plan to increase the cost of Australian families’ favourite vehicles by thousands of dollars. Labor’s proposal to increase the cost of petrol and diesel cars - while giving subsidies to purchase an electric vehicle - is asking families on low and middle incomes struggling with their grocery bills to pay more for their family car.

Instead of addressing industry and community opposition to this divisive policy, the Albanese Government has committed $10 million to sell its policy to Australians as part of a multimedia advertising campaign. So instead of investing this money in cost-of-living relief, Labor has instead thrown money to sell a policy which will only make life harder for everyday Australian families.

Further, the campaign – which you can already hear on the radio and see on tv – is selling a policy that is not even proposed to commence until next year. Australians would expect that their taxpayer dollars are going into health, housing, and cost of living relief – not an advertising campaign intending to paper over the cracks in public opinion.

Labor has the wrong priorities – wasting money on selling their own divisive policy instead of investing in health, housing, cost of living relief and other areas neglected by the Labor Government.
